Using the wrong bed base can damage your mattress and void your warranty. Flexislats can create uneven pressure points and cause sagging; broken or worn-out box springs offer zero support; and slats spaced too wide (over 8cm apart), let your mattress bulge between gaps. Additionally, not all mattresses are designed for adjustable bases: using one with an incompatible mattress can cause flexing, internal damage, and premature wear. Our handcrafted SleepMaker bases provide solid, even support designed specifically for your mattress, ensuring lasting performance. Match your base to your mattress!

What are the differences between SleepMaker standard, drawer and kitset bed bases?

The main difference lies in support style and functionality. Our Standard Base is a fixed, durable foundation using New Zealand timber frames for consistent, reliable support. The Drawer Base offers a flexible bedroom storage solution with that same great Kiwi craftsmanship. The kitset base comes in a box. It is light, easy to move, and quick to put up and down - perfect for when you need a bed in a hurry!
Are your bed bases really made in New Zealand?

Our Standard and Drawer bed bases are handcrafted and hand-assembled right here in NZ. We use traditional upholstery techniques combined with durable materials including quality pine frames to ensure a solid, reliable foundation that supports the SleepMaker standard of quality. The trundle bridge is made in New Zealand, and the metal trundler frame and kitset bases are made in China.

To pick a SleepMaker bed base, first decide if you need a solid base or you'd prefer a lighter kitset option.
